Port Security (ISPS):

Karlshamns Hamn AB (Port of Karlshamn) port area is subject to the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), which aims to protect ships and port facilities, and is regulated in Sweden by the Act (2004:487) on maritime security.

The rules provide some basic requirements, including making security assessments and security plans for port facilities and measures to prevent unauthorized access. In Port of Norrköping this means that all access to the port area must be checked, and that the opportunities for both unauthorized by unauthorized cargo entering the port area of the ISPS Code shall be eliminated.

All transportation and other matters to the areas will only be through the designated gates. In these areas, only authorized personnel shall have access. With qualified personnel in this regard, are people who have received one of the Port of Karlshamn issued identity or access card and crews.

The Swedish Transport Agency, as regulatory authority, have established and approved security assessments and plans for Port of Karlshamn in accordance with the ISPS Code. Port areas considered by this as SPA.

Voluntary supply chain security program for containers to USA (C-TPAT):

There is a special quality assurance between the U.S. Customs and shipping companies; the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). This is a voluntary supply-chain security program led by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) focused on improving the security of private companies' supply chains with respect to terrorism.

C-TPAT involves ports indirectly, when ports are requested by shipping companies about how containers are controlled in the port and at depots and that all seals are checked properly.

As from February 1:st 2003 new regulation was introduced for preadvise of all goods destined for USA, where the U.S. Customs must receive preadvice 24 hours before loading on the vessel.

Port of Karlshamn is quality assured by customer exporting to the USA, why the port meet their demands, in addition to ISPS.
