Rail traffic up 50 percent 2014 in Port of Karlshamn

During 2014 the rail traffic to and from the Port of Karlshamn increased with more than 50 percent!

"This proves that the customers favour increased transportation by rail", says Mats Olsson, CEO at Port of Karlshamn. Large investments have been made in a brand new intermodal rail terminal, new tracks down to the port and electrification to meet the demand from the customers. Now we begin to see the result.

"A shift from pure road transportation to co-modality where rail transportation is the major mean of transport on the land-leg is a goal for the community. Therefore the realisation of the missing rail link "Sydostlänken" (South East Link - connecting Port of Karlshamn with Olofström and Älmhult) is of outmost importance for, not only the regional development, but also for the national trade development", Mats Olsson continues.
